Going ‘Up North to see the Family

As its Mothers Day this Sunday and My old mans birthday very soon and My niece’s birthday on the 22nd March we are traveling up to see my folks, my sister and her kids.

It’s a long old Journey and we have to cram all those gifts as well as our overnight luggage into the car, plus all the toys the kids want to take with them.

The kids love seeing their Nana and Pop pops as they are know and its also nice for us to see them and catch up. We don’t get to see them that often so its a worthwhile trip.

My wife and I have been discussing recently about getting a bigger car because of these long trips and because we struggle with the space when we do trips to the airport or UK short breaks such as Centre Parcs. So hopefully we’ll soon be getting a bigger car, maybe a cross over or mpv.

We recently brought a Portable DVD Player to keep the kids entertained on these long journeys and it has been money well spent.

Anyone recommend any new cars that are bigger than a golf, cheap to run and maintain so good fuel economy but plenty of space for our luggage, toys and anything else we wish to throw in the back. We may even go for a 7-seater so we can chuck the grandparents in the 2 back seats when we go away with them!

Investing can be an alternative to Saving

Savings accounts at the moment are almost a waste of time. Why should I put my money in an account to only get a couple of percent interest. Investing into bonds could be an alternative as you although you don’t tend to get any interest, the bonds could be a nice little payout if you win. Investing in Property is also another way to make use of that cash lying around, that’s if you have loads of cash.

As I have been investing in domain names recently to buy and sell off for profit which really helps to top up my income and allow my wife to not have to return to work, I’ve decided to invest into commodities such as gold. You can sell gold for cash and with gold prices at an all time high at the moment why not hey. Although its not the usual investment, its still an investment in domains, well a website actually. I recently purchased a website that had what I believe some potential to make a nice passive income from. Although it has cost me to buy the website off the previous owner it has allowed me to put that money lying around into something that I think will get my investment back in hopefully a short space of time and also make me a nice amount of money. The other benefit I find when investing in websites and domains is the value in the domains can be in demand to end users for much more money if I was to sell off at a later date.

How do you invest your savings, any tips, please leave your comments below

Welcome to London – London Olympics 2012

I recently received the latest London Olympic Logos so I thought I would share these on my blog. Quite Amusing and a little Looters Prayer to go with these photos;

Our father, who art in prison, my mum knows not his name, thy Riots come, read it in “The Sun” in Birmingham, as it is in London, give us this day our Welfare bread and forgive us our looting, as we are happy to loot those who defend stuff against us. Lead us not into employment but deliver us free housing, for thine is the Facebook the Blackberry & the Twitter, forever and ever… Innit

If you have tickets to the 2012 Olympics then this is possibly some of the events you might be interested in.

Up to 20% off at Spartoo.co.uk

My wife noticed whilst looking for new boots a while ago a retailer I’ve not heard of before until recently, called Spartoo.co.uk. Their website seems very good and they even offer some great discounts. At the moment they have up to 20% off using the codes I found on this blog at Thigh High Boots and you will see the latest Offer post has all the codes.

The discount codes for Spartoo.co.uk are valid until the end of the month – Jan 31st 2012 so you still have plenty of time to shop around. There are some good deals if you need to spend some of your Christmas money.

Spartoo.co.uk is fast becoming a leading online shoe retailer. They specialize in shoes and boots and have an huge range including the top brands and all the latest trends available.

Quick Cash Loans until Payday

If your are struggling for money in the run up to Christmas and you are expecting you will go overdrawn then keep in mind the charges or fees that you might have to pay on top of the interest payments for going into your overdraft. With Christmas being an expensive time of the year, you may not want to cut back as you will want to make your Christmas special for all the family.

If you know that you will be able to pay the money back when you next get paid then why not consider using a Instant Cash Loan. These from the face of it may seem like huge APR rates and get a lot of bad press but can be very helpful to those people that either struggle to get Loans from high street banks or have bad credit scores. The process can be very stressful too with lengthy application forms to fill in asking you for everything from how much your earn to your inside leg measurement! You may also have to wait days before you even know if you are going to be approved the loan or not. Cash Loans on the other hand do not penalise you if you have bad credit. Apparently about 97% of applications will get approved almost instantly and the best thing is you will get a decision straight away online. Although the interest charges seem very high, you need to look at the loan examples. For example borrowing £180 for 28 days, you will end up paying back a total of £225 which works out at £45 interest. This can seem like a lot for such a small amount of time you are borrowing, but can be helpful for those that need it the most, such as when your car breaks down and it needs repairing, but you can’t afford to pay out of your current account, you may not want to borrow off family or friends and you know that this is a short term loan. This can work out less what you pay back than if you had to pay all those overdraft fees.

Like any Loan, I’d always recommend you try and pay off the bills, cards or loans that are going to be the highest in interest or fees. Then make sacrifices like cutting back on things that aren’t necessary, mobiles phones, sky tv, ipads etc.

If you are in need of some quick cash until payday, then visit www.cashloans.org.uk. They send your application to all the best loan companies offering payday loans to secure the best deal for you and to improve your chances of approval.

Waitrose Food Shopping delivery – No going back says the wife

waitrose food deliveryMy wife recently decided that she wanted to try out Waitrose for online food shopping, not sure if she was trying to be more faithful to her new employer John Lewis or not. Anyway we took delivery of our first Waitrose Food Shopping Delivery yesterday and now the Wife says there is no going back!!! Although we haven’t had a bad experience using others like Tesco and Sainsbury’s and their is food we like from both stores and Tesco generally being cheaper doesn’t always make for better quality foods, such as the fresh meat you get, half the time you have to throw away a quarter of the meat because its so poor. Anyway we knew the food was good at Waitrose but have been always put off because its generally more expensive. Well not in our case it seems. Our weekly shopping bill came in about £10 less than we usually spend, the delivery was free. They turned up at 4pm when our slot was 4pm – 6pm so we didn’t have to hang around. The delivery guy was dressed smart and well spoken and generally very helpful explaining everything. This seems to be true to everyone that works for John Lewis and Waitrose that the portrait a great company to work for. We even got a Welcome Pack. The Shopping was put into specific bags so you knew which was Fridge, Freezer or Cupboard items, even the bill was easy to read.

Since my Wife has started working for John Lewis she has given great feedback about the staff, the people she works with and the processes. There is no wander loads of people would like to work there and also why People love shopping there too. Well done John Lewis/Waitrose. You’ve gained a new loyal Customer and potentially life longer employee in my wife. She is happy so far which makes me happy. What also makes me happy is the discount we’ll get on groceries and at JohnLewis.com. Can’t wait!!

Save Money using a Deal Aggregator Service like DealCollector.co.uk

deal collector

I’m always looking for ways to save money and with all the recent new group buying daily deals sites coming along offering savings of up to 90% sometimes on either high street purchases or gift experiences to pretty much anything else you can think of. Sites like Groupon and Living Social offer these promotional offers for a limited time only. They have a timer which runs usually for 24 hours until a certain amount of people buy. If not enough people buy then the deal is not on, but most of the time you will see quite a lot of people taking up the offer.

I recently came across a neat website that offers to list all the deals from these Group Buying websites such as Groupon, Crowdity, KGB Deals, Living Social and more all from 1 site, saving you time having to trawl through the other sites. I think this is a great idea as it means you can see a wider range of deals available, then when you are ready to take up an offer such as a 2 night 4* Break in Brussels including Eurostar return tickets worth £279pp discounted to £139pp. Deals like this don’t come along often so when they do groups of people tend to panic buy as they don’t like to miss out on such an amazing deal.

With Dealcollector.co.uk you can also select your city so you can view all the Deals London has to offer or any other UK city. This is useful as it helps you tailor your deal search to find relevant deals that might be more suitable to where you live. Some of the deals may be for local companies so might not be useful to someone that lives miles away.

Life is too short so go get yourself a bargain and treat yourself or someone special to a break away and it doesn’t have to be expensive with sites like DealCollector.co.uk

Happy Hanniversary Wifey

Today is mine and my wife’s 5th Anniversary so I just wanted to leave a message on here to say how happy and lucky I am to be married to you Emma. Thanks for putting up with me for the last 5 years. In this time we have made a family, with 2 lovely little children, moved house twice and have built up more memories together as a family.

It was 5 years ago today that I was the luckiest man alive to be getting married to such a wonderful girl in Paphos Cyprus. My Girl that has a heart of gold and so caring, but also beautiful too. I won’t forget the moment she walked down the aisle looking absolutely stunning, the most beautiful girl in the world. It was like no one else existed for that moment just You and I.

Now I’m getting all soppy, but I just wanted to let you know how much I love you and I look forward to spending so many more happy years together.

Happy Hanniversary (our little joke)

Credit Card Switching to avoid too much charges

Switching Credit Cards can help you avoid paying over the odds when it comes to borrowing money. We usually switch to 0% cards near the end of the term but one of our recent cards has run out and because we had to use it for the odd purchase here and there, we noticed the bank is now going to charge us for borrowing this money as our initial period where it was 0% run out. We didn’t realise so now we are looking at switching to another 0% card.

Switching can save you lots of money but you have to be careful who you switch to and how many times you apply for other cards otherwise you will affect your credit rating. 1 tip would be is to make sure the card provider isn’t the same as the one you are switching or already have other existing cards with. Make sure you close down the old cards that are no longer in use. Always look for Instant Decision Credit Cards as then you will find out before going through the main credit checks.

I am not one for wanting to borrow money and putting it on the credit card but tough times mean it becomes difficult to afford just everyday things. That isn’t to say we go without the odd treat, like a nice meal out, the odd weekend away or a nice new toy for my birthday. My wife brought me an iPad and I must say I’m getting my use out of it. Hey you’ve gotta live right. We usually set up a direct debit to pay off a monthly amount so that the debt doesn’t continue to build up. So I’ve been looking around for a new card to transfer my balance over too and I found some which now offer Instant Approval Credit Cards which is great as you can find out almost straight away if you will get accepted or not. This is generally worked out on your income but is very useful to save applying for loads of other cards that might not accept you and then this can have a negative effort on your credit score.

As Christmas is less than 100 days away, Got both Kids birthdays coming up in November with Joshua turning 2 and Molly turning 4, there will be more expense with their birthday parties and presents.

I’d better get more frugal so that I can pay off the debt before the 0% runs out.

Cherish those special moments

My daughter comes home from Preschool and quite often she will bring some drawings or paintings from what she has done that day. It’s nice to know that she is having a good time and she tells us this is one of her favourite things to do. However those little drawings can clutter up our kitchen and so we end up binning most of these. Sorry Molly if you are reading this when you have grown up a bit. We do love your drawings and hope you will understand that we can’t keep them all. We do however put the odd couple on the Fridge and replace with better ones as and when.

Maybe I’ve just found the answer. I will take photos of your drawings and keep these as a memory of your earlier years to Cherish those special moments when you were little enough to still want cuddles, still be dependant on Mummy and Daddy and generally just so cute.

I have also decided that I will put up the odd special drawing, painting or even hand printed art onto this blog so that I can look at this when I’m at work or away from home to put a massive smile on my face and can keep for years to come.

So here is the first installment of Molly’s special moments that I want to cherish. We love you lots Molly and you are the best daughter in the whole wide world.

Better than sending your picture into the BBC for them to not display it on CBeebies hey!
